What is the impact of wind farms on house prices?
The study was carried out by Peter Dent FRICS, Head of the Real Estate and Construction Department and Dr Sally Sims senior lecturer in the same Department of Oxford Brookes University, UK and was funded by RICS.
The presentation will take place on Wednesday September 19 2007, 17:00 hours at the House of RAI, Conference Rm , 8, Skopa Street, Nicosia ,
The European governments are committing themselves to reducing their carbon emissions. A key initiative is the use of renewable energy and more specifically wind power. Despite general popular support for wind farms there is also considerable opposition. A number of reasons are argued by those opposed to them, but the negative impact on residential property values is often put forward. The study to be presented tested this argument on a number of sites in Cornwall.
The talk will be based around the research which considered the possible impact of windfarm development on residential property values. The two speakers will also be referring to other research which has been undertaken in Europe, the US and Australia. Whilst evidence is not extensive there is a range of methodologies which could be applied. Their aim is to provide an evaluation of these and offer guidance on best practice.
In our effort to bring in the local dimension the talk will be followed by Questions & Answers and Discussion.
In its concluding remarks the study points out that ''…the 'threat' of a wind farm may have a more significant impact that the actual presence of one''. Our aim is to provide the real estate professionals with the analysis of scientific research and information and initiate a dialogue among professionals regarding the factors that should be looked into, the reactions to be expected, the mistakes to be avoided.
