It was proposed by the Electricity Authority (EAC) but was rejected by the then Minister of Agriculture.
If you ask me there are a number of issues that I have questions about the whole EAC genrating plants:
1 Why are they all on the south coast and as a result we need so many overhead lines to distribute electricity;
2 Why don't we use the heat for desalination as you say or for heating purposes as they do abroadq You can provide heating for a small community!
3 Why doesn' t the Electricity Authority use renewable energy sources elseswhere appart from what they have installed in their building;Theopemptouhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04696077267855061549noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37162440.post-1965440024866831192008-03-02T21:34:00.000+02:002008-03-02T21:34:00.000+02:00Cyprus uses the reverse osmosis method to desalina...Cyprus uses the reverse osmosis method to desalinate sea water. This method burdens the environment with huge quantities of carbon dioxide, released through the production of the required additional electrical load.

Bearing in mind that our oil-fired power stations operate at a thermal efficiency of 35% at best, and that the remaining 65% is waste heat dumped in the sea, it makes sense to utilise some of this wasted energy to desalinate sea water through the process of multi-stage flash distillation.
In fact, all the major power stations built in the Gulf States in recent years, combine the generation of electricity with desalination through this process.Costas Agrotishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16534280322719181863noreply@blogger.com
